About Us
Knesset Israel is one of the oldest Conservative Congregations in Los Angeles,
having originated in a neighborhood home in the early 1920's. Our first synagogue,
on Lyman Place, was dedicated in 1926. The Congregation moved to its current
location on Vermont Avenue in 1955. Now in our eighty-sixth year, we continue to
flourish under the spiritual leadership of Rabbi Robert Elias and Cantor Lee
Greenberg.
If you are seeking spiritual enlightenment, cultural awareness, or friendship and
fellowship, you will always find a warm welcome at Temple Knesset Israel. Our
traditional services are in Hebrew and English and our diverse congregants come
from many ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Please join us for Shabbat services
beginning at 8:45 am every Saturday, followed by a Kiddush lunch and Torah
discussion with Rabbi Elias and Cantor Greenberg. We also have morning
services on all of the Jewish Festival days. Our annual communal Second Seder
and Hanukah Dinner always provide spirituality and fun along with good food and a
warm environment.
